Bulk soil and rhizosphere soil samples (soil closely associated with plant roots) will be collected and analyzed to better understand how soil biology influences crop performance. The rhizosphere is known to support microbial populations that can be 10 to 100 times greater than those found in bulk soil, creating an environment where beneficial microorganisms can thrive and support plant growth.
